When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?
The retailer has confirmed in a press release that Amazon Prime Day will take place on July 16 – 17. The sale will start at midnight on Tuesday and run until 23:59 on Wednesday, giving you 48 hours to snap up the best bargains.
However, some deals are available right now, and more are set to launch over the coming weeks, with fresh offers dropping each day from July 8 – 15.
How do I become an Amazon Prime member?
You need to be an Amazon Prime member to access all Prime Day deals. A subscription costs $14.99 per month or $139 for a year.
If you haven’t signed up before then new subscribers can get a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial to buy the member-exclusive deals. The free trial also lets you try out all the other membership benefits, including free shipping, access to Prime Video and much more.
You can read our Amazon Prime review for full coverage of what you get as part of a membership. That can help you decide if you want to cancel Amazon Prime once your free trial has ended to avoid being charged the monthly fee.
Will there be a Prime Day in October 2024?
Amazon has also run a Prime Day in October in the last two years, so will it run another in 2024? While nothing has been announced, we are confident there will be a second Amazon Prime Day in October. It’s been relatively successful as it’s an ideal preview for the retailer’s Black Friday deals in November, so it’s very likely that Amazon will hold it again in 2024.
Amazon Prime Day: buying advice
We’ve covered Amazon Prime Day at TechRadar for almost a decade so we know how the sale works and how to get the best deals. I’ve shared all our expertise and insights here, including the deals to look out for and which products have the best discounts during the event.
What are the best Amazon Prime Day deals?
The majority of the best Prime Day deals are on Amazon products. The retailer always discounts these items to their lowest prices during Prime Day – even cheaper than we see on Black Friday – which makes it a great time to buy a Fire TV, Kindle, Echo Dot, Fire Tablet and so on.
There are also hundreds of deals in all of the retailer’s most popular categories, too, such as TVs, laptops, appliances, smart home tech, gaming, fashion and more. Depending on the product, you can often pay the lowest price that year during Prime Day, though some of the biggest savings are held back for Black Friday in November.
No matter what it is you’re after, we search through the full sale to bring you all the best Amazon Prime Day deals right here so you can be sure you won’t miss out on a bargain.
Amazon Prime Day vs Black Friday
Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday are well known for offering some of the year’s best deals. And while there’s a good four months between both sales events, it’s still worth considering whether you should hit buy now at Amazon or wait for November to pick up any items on your shopping list.
Here are my top tips on what to buy and what to avoid during Prime Day:
✅ Amazon Devices
Prime Day is the one time of the year when Amazon Devices fall to their lowest-ever prices. That means it’s the best time to pick up some smart home tech such as a Fire TV Stick, Echo Dot, Kindle or Ring Doorbell – to name just a few options.
✅ Back-to-school gear
It might be a little early, but we’ve found in previous events that Amazon Prime Day offers a good opportunity to pick up any back-to-school tech or essentials. This includes products from our areas of expertise such as laptops, tablets and headphones, but also clothing, stationary and other supplies.
❌ Major appliances
Amazon does sell major appliances but it’s rarely the best place to shop if you want a new refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher or oven. We’d suggest sticking to other larger retailers such as Best Buy, Lowe’s and Samsung for the best offers – especially during other yearly sales events such as Memorial Day, 4th of July or Labor Day.
❌ 2024 TVs
You’ll find a good number of TV deals during Prime Day but – outside of a few rare examples – we’d encourage you to wait until Black Friday if you’re buying a brand-new 2024 TV. Some discounts for these three-to-six-month-old displays are a good start, but they will almost certainly be cheaper in November. Instead, stick to the older LG, Samsung and Sony models from 2023, or go for more budget-friendly options by Hisense, Insignia and TCL – or a Fire TV.
